types in its species, but can also be known as lesser burdock, beggar’s buttons, hardock, wild burdock, and even wild rhubarb. Here’s all you need to know about the weed, so you know how you need to handle it.

Most Abundant and Oldest Weeds

Originally from England and France, the common burdock is now native to North America. It’s a biennial weed that completes its life cycle over the course of two years. In some cases, it can actually take four years due to conditions. In the second to fourth year, the weed will flower.
Conditions will also affect the time of year that the flowering will take place. While June to August is the most common, it can be as late as October for flowering to happen!
Despite having no odor, animals will take to the weed to help spread the seeds and fertilize it. The seeds usually germinate in the early spring and it’s possible for seeds to last for two years in the ground, waiting for the right temperatures to germinate. This can make it extremely difficult to get rid of the weed.

Finding the Common Burdock

Most of the time, you’ll find the weed where soil has been undisturbed, which is why it’s not commonly found in cultivated areas. Some of the most popular areas include roadsides, stream banks, barnyards, fence rows, and waste places. Any abandoned fields or places that receive little treatments are good locations for the growth.
The type of soil doesn’t affect the growth. It can withstand high nitrogen contents, sterile clay and even the most fertile of soils. This also makes it one of the most potentially threatening weeds to other plants, as it will take up as many nutrients as possible to survive.

Common burdock takes a lot of nutrients, space and water from desired vegetation and needs to be control. If you have a common burdock problem on your land, submit estimate request and will get back with you as soon as we can.
