Leafy Spurge Description
Leafy Spurge (Euphorbia esula) commonly referred to as green spurge or wolf’s milk or is a long-lived perennial plant is a member of spurge family. Leafy spurge noxious weed has an extensive root with a depth of about 30 feet, containing nutrients that support the plant for a very long time. The plant grows between 1 to 1.2 meters in height with smooth, lightly hairy or hairless stems branched from the base of the plant. It has small lanced shaped leaves of about 4 to 8.5cms in length and up to 1cm in breadth.
The flowers are yellowish -green which grows in small well-arranged clusters and with paired yellow-green bract at the base with the shape of the heart. The bract’s cluster shoots out in late spring and the flowers in early summer. The plant reproduces by its seeds which have a high germination rate. The seeds can survive in the soil for seven years or more.
